Commercial kitchens should be the epitome of cleanliness. At the end of the shift, there should be nothing more than row upon row of shimmering stainless steel worktops flanked by clean hobs, grime-free extractor fans, and carefully-arranged refrigerators.
Unfortunately, the reality can be a little different. Commercial kitchens are high-chaos environments. There’s so much going on that it’s hard to stay on top of the mess, let alone the hygiene!
This post is here to help; we will run through some quick hacks that commercial kitchen cleaners use to keep facilities spotless.
Hack #1: Remove stubborn stains from chef whites with hydrogen peroxide
Applying a small amount of hydrogen peroxide to some dish soap and warm water and then applying this to stains before putting them in the wash is a great way to reduce the appearance of stains. Chef whites will come out looking sparkling and brand new.
Hack #2: Use coffee filters to clean glass
Coffee filters have a special fibre construction. Use them on your windows and mirrors for a streak-free finish.
Hack #3: Drape a towel over your flour mixer
Mixers can spread fine flour particles all over your kitchen which then combine with oil to create a sticky residue that gets everywhere. Fortunately, you can prevent this by placing a dishcloth over the top of your mixer while in operation.
Hack #4: Boil water in your pans to remove stubborn stains
Sometimes, even high-powered commercial dishwashers can’t remove stubborn, carbonised stains from the bottom of pans, but boiling water can.
Simmer the offending pan for 15 minutes and then remove it from the heat. Then try scrubbing the stain away. It should flake off much more easily.
Hack #5: Heat your silverware before polishing it
Guests don’t like it when it looks like residues of the last diner’s food are on their cutlery. Unfortunately, it can be hard to avoid if you operate in a hard water area.
There’s a solution, though: heat cutlery up first before polishing it. This way, you can easily remove watermarks.
Hack #6: Use salt to soak up spills
Lastly, use salt to soak up the worst kitchen spills, including pans of oil and bacon grease. Just sprinkle the salt over the fat, let it do its magic, and then sweep it up.
Hack #7: Get a professional cleaning plan
Professional cleaning plans will be scheduled around your business and ensure your commercial kitchen is regularly deep cleaned to prevent build up of dirt and grime, making it easier for the kitchen to continue with their day to day schedule. A stockroom is an essential part of your retail store and makes sure you are well-stocked for your customer’s needs at all times. Whether you are storing food, clothing, or electrical items, failing to maintain cleanliness standards will have a massive impact on your business and reputation, not to mention being unsafe for your employees.
Commercial cleaning services can help you maintain hygiene standards in your storeroom or back offices of your shop with ease. Read on to find out more.
Reduced contamination risk
There is always the risk of contamination when storing any items, especially around foodstuffs. While a quick brush floor clean of debris can eliminate some of these external factors, missing nooks and hidden spots can allow bacteria to grow or spills to seep onto your stock, increasing cross-contamination. Dirty premises will also attract pests and rodents, which can further damage stock, cause health and safety problems and deter customers from shopping with you.
Specialist stock room or warehouse cleaning services can ensure this risk is eliminated quickly, and your stock rooms and the products held in them are safe and secure.
Time management
Cleaning your stock room thoroughly on a regular basis can be time and labour intensive. Using contract cleaners for commercial cleaning needs means you can manage your time better and invest it where it is needed: running your business and increasing sales. Commercial cleaners for retail spaces can work with you to carry out their services around your operating hours for minimal disruption to your business and increased demands on your time.
Improved reputation
If your customers are confident you are running a clean store and taking health and safety seriously, they will be more confident in shopping with you, thus increasing your brand’s reputation. You preserve the quality of your products and support your employees by providing a clean and safe working environment at the same time too. Using professional cleaners to ensure your store and your stock room is cleaned effectively and safely instils confidence that you are a retailer who has customers’ and employees’ best interests at heart.

Whether they are located in a restaurant or an office building, commercial kitchens and canteen areas are guaranteed to get very dirty due to the nature of the work that happens in them. You may be thinking that the staff will clean up all the spills and stains, but think again. Here are some reasons why hiring a team of commercial kitchen cleaners is a must.
Ensuring hygiene
The only way to really ensure that food preparation areas are 100% hygienic is to bring in professional contract cleaners at least once every six months to give them a thorough deep cleaning. This will see built-up grime and grease removed from hard to reach places like canopy filters, ductwork, fans and lights, which the kitchen staff won’t even think of.
Regulations compliance
There are official Food Hygiene standards that any commercial kitchen or canteen is obligated to meet. You may think that these kinds of regulations only apply to restaurants or takeaways, but they are applicable to any area where food is prepared. Not bringing in specialist cleaners a couple of times a year could lead to your kitchen – or entire business – being shut down.
Illness avoidance
Should a member of the public contract a virus like Norovirus, Salmonella or E. coli after eating food prepared in an unclean kitchen or canteen, you could face expensive legal action, as well as very real damage to the reputation of your company. Getting these areas deep cleaned regularly by people who know what they are doing will save you a lot of time, money and worry.
Protecting equipment
The items used in a commercial kitchen, such as combi ovens and dishwashers, are not cheap and you want them to last as long as possible. While these will be given a basic wiping down at the end of each workday, accumulated dirt and grease can still cause them to break down sooner or later. If you bring in a cleaning service, they will deep clean areas like the oven drip trays. That will get rid of grease and oil that can lead to fires and irreparable damage to the equipment.
